Welcome to the Holidays

Okay, so I'm not officially on holidays until next Monday when I hand up my almost completed essay but I'm treating it like holidays. I know, why not just finish the essay and hand it up? Well, really all I have left to do is the conclusion. I just dont enjoy conclusion writing all that much as basically you have to summarise everything without actually summarising it all. Anyway I'll leave that joy until Monday.
I really wanted to post but not much has been happening lately. All I've done all week is meet various friends for coffee and/or lunch.
I leave for Melbourne in about 12 days which will be great, I'm really looking forward to catching up with some friends who went to Cambodia with me. I'm only gone for 4 days which isnt long but still something to look forward to!
Ha, I think I'll end this pathetically short post about nothing.
Until next post...

so we keep on waiting, waiting on the HOLIDAYS

Thank you (everyone who commented) for your comments, I love comments :)
Well firstly must correct my last post. Hannah actually ended up raising $700 for the Aids Orphans and Street Children which is an even better end result of her foosball endeavor.
Now what can I say about this week?

Well I have been trying to drive my beautiful little car and have stalled (insert small number here) times (I would rather not disclose the number of times I have actually stalled the car.) I’ve made it onto a main road which was very scary and have almost perfected hill starts but would prefer not to do them. Driving a manual is going to take a bit of practice (before I’d feel confident driving anywhere by myself).

I’ve found a job; well at least I hope so. I had an interview this morning and she asked me to come back for a paid trial shift next weekend which sounds promising. It’s just a sat morning job for 4 hours but my poor depleted bank account is happy for any contribution. It sounds like (and looks like) an extremely fun job where I spend the morning playing with 3-6 year old and teaching them to enjoy team sport. Hoping it turns out to be a job that I really enjoy and one that isn’t too full on or difficult.

NB: Photo included because it seems to make a post just that little more interesting.
Went to a screening of Shrek the third last night which was raising funds for vulnerable children in Myanmar, http://www.stir.org.au/stir/Content.aspx?topicID=192.
I thought it was funny and worth watching but you be the judge… it had a moral ending which was a bit much but was really cute and laugh our loud hilarious at times. I think I’d give it a 7/10…not as good as the first one, of course, but none the less worth watching.

Oxfam is still having their warehouse sale at 30 North Tce Kent Town. I’m always there volunteering on Tues and Fri arvo. If you’re in the area, come check it out and support fair trade!

On an end note, I handed in 3 assignments this week which means only 5 left to finish and I’m about to enter week 16 (the last week). Cant wait!

Until next week…

CARAZY

Well week 14 is now over, only 2 more to go and then HOLIDAYS!! I’m going to Melbourne for 4 days which should be fun (I haven’t been there since year 8!) to meet up with some wonderful friends who went with me to Cambodia earlier this year. Aside from that my holiday project is to find a job and convert my art room into a useable room (the art room is a room underneath the house that no one really uses and it’s full of lots of junk).

Oxfam is having a big warehouse sale in Kent Town (30 north tce, in the Korean market until july 29th) and its awesome… lots of bargains. I volunteered there on Friday which was lots of fun and will be there more during the hols. They are actually looking for more volunteers so if you’ve got a couple of hours to spare on a day, let me know and I can give you more info. Definitely a good way to volunteer and help fund the work of Oxfam in promoting fair trade!

Last night Jess, Lib and I went to a foosball fundraiser which my friend, Hannah, organised to raise money for the home for Aids Orphans and Street Children that Teen Missions has set up in Zambia.

It is estimated that by 2010 there will be 40 million AIDS Orphans worldwide. 95% of these children will be living in Sub-Saharan Africa.
It would take 80,000 orphanages with 500 children at each to take care of the AIDS Orphans in Sub-Saharan Africa alone.

It was an exciting different, fun idea for a fundraiser and went really well with over $400 being raised. I wasn’t the best at foosball but I almost won the last game!

Also I must share my excitement at the recent purchase of my first car!! It’s a beautiful little manual car (lol, I can’t actually drive it because I don’t know how to drive a manual yet.) Anyway I bought it yesterday and am quite excited to learn to drive it.

NB: This is not my car, just one that looks like it
My weekly update :) Now I should get back to the assignments…

some thoughts which could be seen as slightly random

I just thought I'd share a quick discovery of mine....CUMIN
We've never had it in the pantry before but it is definately the best herb to ever exist. I love it! Right now I'm cooking some wedges seasoned with cumin; if only the oven cooked faster.
How exciting, sas camp starts in app a few hours. I hope it will be fun, interesting and not too cold. Right now I'm decked out in the warmest coat I have with my toes resting dangerously close to the heater. I know my house can be a little chilly but I think beside the river is going to be worse. Go wheatbags, single best invention ever! (nb there may be a few better inventions somewhere in the world, say the oven which is cooking my wedges and the car which is still waiting to be found and bought)
Only three weeks left of semester one. Makes me want to smile and cry at the same time (but no they wouldnt be happy tears). I'm exciting to be finishing some of my subjects but I never ever ever ever want to finish Writing for Children which is just the best thing since cumin (I'd say sliced bread but we only have this yucky discounted brown stuff in the freezer at the moment and it cant really be called the best thing ever.)
I can smell the cumin in the air, food is almost ready
until next post
